I have yet to get through to Spencer about looking where he is going. As small boys are want to do, he runs full tilt without a care as to what stands in his way or regard for his environment (ie wet bathroom tile in a 4 x 8 room is created equal to a wide open football field in his world). For my part, I try to consistently remind him to look where he is going so as to avoid potential daily collisions with other humans, pets, inanimate objects etc. But somehow I think he’s not quite grasping the fundamentals of the concept.

Yesterday afternoon as he was recounting the day’s events, our conversation went like this:

“Mom, today I cried TWO TIMES!”

“Really? Why?”

“Well, one time I ran right into Rebecca, REALLY HARD . . . and I cried” (insert pitiful small boy facial expression here)

“I see — well, do you remember what we talked about this morning? Looking where you are going?”

“Yes! I did! I looked right at Rebecca, and then I sped up, and ran REALLY FAST, right into her. And then I cried.”

*sigh*

What do you with small boys of your own think? Should I give up on this now?
