{"id":563,"date":"2008-12-07T22:48:40","date_gmt":"2008-12-08T04:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottnkelly.com\/blog\/?p=563"},"modified":"2008-12-07T22:48:40","modified_gmt":"2008-12-08T04:48:40","slug":"name-that-profession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/07\/name-that-profession\/","title":{"rendered":"Name that profession. . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/engineerride-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-564\" title=\"He chose the hippo after analyzing the alternatives and weighing the risks.\" src=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/engineerride-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"165\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/engineerride-1.jpg 528w, https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/engineerride-1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 165px) 100vw, 165px\" \/><\/a>There are days when the girls are princesses, horse owners, fairies, cooks, fashion designers, models and some sort of superstars &#8211; but I never get an overpowering sense of which profession is actually going to stick.\u00a0 Then there is the boy.<\/p>\n<p>On a recent trip to Atlanta we made a pit stop at Northpointe Mall, one of our favorite stomping grounds, to hit the carousel and a few other attractions.\u00a0 Once we got on the ride, the boy became silent &#8211; which is extremely unusual.\u00a0 He looked up, down and around at the other horses, tigers and hippos that would eventually be in motion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hey Dad.\u00a0 I know how this goes up and down.\u00a0 See that bar up there?\u00a0 It goes around and around and when it turns, the horse goes up and down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why yes it does.\u00a0 Good job!&#8221; I replied.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward a few days.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dad, my leapster is out of batteries&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just changed them yesterday&#8230;&#8221; his mom called from the other room.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Here kid, it&#8217;s working&#8221; I said, turning it on and showing him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/engtools-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-566\" title=\"He took a screenshot.
