{"id":784,"date":"2009-04-20T11:58:40","date_gmt":"2009-04-20T17:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottnkelly.com\/blog\/?p=784"},"modified":"2009-04-20T11:58:40","modified_gmt":"2009-04-20T17:58:40","slug":"pre-emptive-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/20\/pre-emptive-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-emptive Fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So the oldest just turned 9 and thinks she turned 16.\u00a0\u00a0 While waiting for dinner, all three were discussing how soon they would be teenagers.\u00a0 Already not a good sign. . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/noteens-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-785 alignright\" title=\"and may God have mercy on us all. .  \" src=\"https:\/\/scottnkelly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/noteens-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"142\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>So in a moment of parental wisdom \/ what was I thinking, I decided to seize the opportunity to have a conversation with them and discuss what was ahead for them.<\/p>\n<p>Eloquently, I began with &#8220;The trouble with being a teenager is that you think you know everything&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In hindsight, I should have stopped there, but continued and attempted to put it in perspective for them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s see how old am I?&#8221; I asked&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;36&#8221; they all shouted in unison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes &#8211; there you go.
